From October 4th, countries which people travel from to the UK will be divided into ‘Red’ countries and ‘Rest of the World’.

Arrivals from ‘Red’ countries need to book a hotel quarantine package through the UK government website.

Arrivals from the ‘Rest of the World’ will need;

– a day 2 PCR test AND do not need to quarantine if they are fully vaccinated* OR

– a day 2 and 8 test AND do need to quarantine for ten days if they are not fully vaccinated*

At the end of October 2021 the day 2 PCR test will be replaced by an antigen test – the UK government is yet to finalise the date or the details of this change, currently arrivals to the UK need the PCR test.

How accurate are your tests?

Our PCR tests are 98.5% sensitive and 99% specific.

Tests are evaluated on several criteria, in particular their sensitivity and their specificity:

● Sensitivity: The sensitivity of a test is also called the true positive rate (TPR) and is the proportion of samples that are genuinely positive that give a positive result using the test in question. Our tests are 98.5% sensitive.
● The specificity of a test, also referred to as the true negative rate (TNR), is the proportion of samples that test negative using the test in question that are genuinely negative. Our tests are 99% specific.

If I test positive, what happens? + -

If a test is positive, you must quarantine for 10 days (additional days if day 2/8 tests). More info will be provided with your test results. The purpose of the day 2 and 8 tests is to detect any travellers with a variant of coronavirus.  A positive test result is therefore further analysed at our laboratory with genome sequencing to look for this – there will be no additional cost if this needs to be done.

Some tests may show that a person has a “variant” of the coronavirus. This will result in contact tracing and Public Health England involvement.

There is more information regarding this available on the government website (hyperlink https://www.gov.uk/guidance/how-to-quarantine-when-you-arrive-in-england)
